Corruption of Power
“Nearly all man can stand advertising, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” (Abraham Lincoln) People have given power to leaders that has led to society to corruption. Power corrupts human nature. Anyone who holds power can manipulate the human’s mind. Throughout history power has made the people want more and become greedy. The corruption of power has led the people to not have a voice to speak. Power has led society in many aspects of corruption.
Anyone who holds power can manipulate the human’s mind. Hitler was a leader in Germany who led the Holocaust. “To conquer a nation, first disarm its citizens.” (Adolf Hitler) Hitler only wanted the Germans to have control of Germany. Hitler was chosen because of his powerful words that convinced the citizens to evacuate the Jews into concentration camps and to execute them. Hitler corrupted human nature by getting rid of millions of Jews and led a horrible event in history. However, who corrupted nature in a positive aspect was Martin Luther King Jr. “ We must learn to live together as brothers or we win perish together as fools.”(Martin Luther King) This powerful quote makes the reader realize that society should be united and put an end to segregation. Leaders have control of the people’s mind and corrupted their thoughts in a positive or negative aspect in nature. Throughout history, power has made the people the people want more and become greedy. The novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, main character is Napoleon. Napoleon is the leader of the farm animals. To benefit himself and the pigs, he made changes to the seven commandments. “No animal shall drink alcohol to excess.” ( Animal Farm pg. 96) Napoleon wants to ensure the animal that alcohol is fine to drink, however only him and the pigs could drink. This is an example of how greedy people can be when they have power and it affects our society. “The history of the present king of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations.” (Declaration of Independence) The king of Great Britain wanted absolute power over the people. This is another example of greediness and oppression towards nature and how greedy the king and Napoleon was. The corruption of power has led the people to not have a voice to speak. The Holocaust lasted nearly about twelve years. Throughout those twelve years, Jews were dying and being mistreated, and no one spoke to say what Hitler was doing was vicious. The corruption of the Jews affected the community's voice to not stop Hitler. This shows how Hitler affected our voice in nature. “...veiled by religious and political illusions, it has substituted naked, shameless, direct, brutal exploitation.”(Communist Manifesto) The Bourgeois is a class that holds power of controlling other classes. They got rid of honor, respect, and religion from other classes. They also took away self-freedom. They exploited everyone which led to another corruption in class ranks and society. |
People feel that corruption of power is the solution to the problem. Power has lead us to wars that countries have won, but have caused the economic industry poor. “Total allocation for war from 2001-2011 in current dollars was $1,406 billion.” ( Costsofwar.org) $1,400 billion dollars is from our taxes that has been raised throughout the years we have been at war, which lower our budget and economic costs. The Bourgeois had great power. To obtain more power to themselves they decided to have hatred towards the lower class. “In one word, it creates a world after its own image...”( Communist Manifesto) The Bourgeois wanted every class to be like them, however that did not happen. Middle class began to have more power than the high class because their trade market increased. This caused more oppression towards the middle and lower class. The hatred led to brutal event for the Proletarians. This led to a corruption of having no rights or honor and becoming the natural opponent of the Bourgeois. Oppression of war and hatred to gain power for themselves has made people feel it is the answer to the problem.
For many years power has lead corruption to our nature and society. The power people had, the greediness and manipulation, and not having a voice to be heard or speak are corrupted by power. Power has made itself a safe image to believe in, however it has became an image of destruction to our nature. |
